Apologies, and new Spurs’ kit
Apologies for the lack of activity around here of late. It is obviously not the football season at the moment so not much on which to comment, especially as neither Spurs nor Arsenal have really dived into the transfer market yet. As soon as something of interest comes up, I’m sure we will have something to say.
In the meantime, Tottenham have a new home kit this season, to which, for the first time (I think) in the club’s recent history, Puma have added a ‘third colour’. The ‘third colour’ is a kind of canary yellow, and is backed by the incredibly cheesy, not to say optimistic, slogan: “Glory comes in three colours”. If I’m honest, after giving it some reflection, I like the added third colour, and the new design overall. I am surprised at this because I haven’t really liked any of the Puma kits so far, other than the blue/white halves one for the 125 year anniversary. Anyway, here’s the new kit for anyone to cast their judgement:

I have to say I didn’t particularly like this kit when I first came across it, perhaps because the added yellow colour was something that has not previously been seen on the home shirt. However, it does seem to be growing on me everytime I see it, with the added yellow making the shirt stand out quite nicely. I am now somewhat tempted to buy one (if I can get one relatively cheaply)!
The yellow seems to be a common trend with all three kits, with it added on the second shirt and then the main colour on the third. I quite like both of these kits, although I am not so sure about the random stripes on the third kit. But again, it will probably grow on me.
Simon, what do you think of the inflated transfer fees at the moment? Ronaldo at £80 million is incredible of course, but Tevez at £22 million and Glenn Johnson at £18 million?

You seem quite conservative in your tastes Tim, what with not liking the yellow when you first saw it, and not liking the ‘random’ (I would say artistic) stripes on the third kit. I would suggest you need to drink more to remedy this latent conservatism. I’m glad you have come round on the home kit though.
Yes, those transfer fees are stupid aren’t they? It seems that a few clubs with loads of money have ruined the transfer window. By paying stupid prices for a few players, they have overinflated the market so that no-one else has the money to buy anyone. Alex Ferguson said something along these lines a few days ago, saying Man Utd won’t be buying anyone else this summer for this reason.
So, do you think with Zokora gone Huddlestone will play a bigger role this season at Spurs?

Hey Simon, sorry for the delayed response.
I’ve watched Spurs’ last two pre-season games against West Ham and Hull and I have been really impressed. Keane and Defoe worked really well together, particularly in the game against Hull, and Modric is looking superb, as expected (his pass for Keane’s first goal was brilliant, check it out). It will be interesting to see how Redknapp accomodates those two with Crouch and Pavlyucenko, the latter of which did a decent job against West Ham. I was also really impressed with Palacios who, together with his usual bite in midfield, offered a lot in the way of creativity. Kyal Naughton was really good, too, and looks like he good really do a job on the right side with some blistering pace and a good final ball. We’re really shaky at the back with all of our recognised central defenders out injured. Corluka did OK, as did Huddlestone, but they both lacked pace which is a really problem, particularly against some of the strikers in the Premier League. The issue you raised about Huddlestone is a tricky one. I really like him since he has a great pass on him and can really hit the ball, but I just can’t see how he can play in the same team as Palacios, who I think should start every game. Again, it will be interesting to see how Harry deals with that but I wouldn’t want to see him leave. I must also mention Ekotto who impresses me every time I see him, with these two pre-season games being no exception.
Looking forward to the new season with cautious optimism. I have come to realise that a good pre-season is no indicator of how well Spurs will do come the real thing!
